Knowing How to Properly Groom

The first thing that a person looks at when they meet you is your face. In order to make sure that anyone that meets you has a good first impression you need to know how to properly take care of your skin and how to look professional. Most men do not have any sort of skin care regimen because that sounds very girly. Just like the Old Spice commercial says, “Men have skin, too!” You need to take care of your skin so that you look your best every day because you never know who you may have to make a good first impression on.
First off, let us talk about facial hair. Now of course the obvious is the beard and moustache, but I am also talking about nose hair and your eyebrows, too. The most basic thing to remember is to keep everything trimmed. If you rock the beard look, then make sure that you keep it trimmed. There is nothing more stupid looking than an unkept beard. With No- Shave- November coming up, you must remember that if you are going to participate you must keep up with it. If you do not, then you are slowly going to start looking homeless and that is not a good look. The best way to keep up with your beard is to make sure it stays clean. If you let it get oily and dirty, your skin will get irritated and then you will be uncomfortable. You will then constantly be itching it and touching your beard which looks very unprofessional and will continue making your beard dirty since your hands will be dirty. After you clean your beard and dry it, then you need to comb it against the grain making all the hairs stand up. This will allow you to trim any hairs that are getting too long. This trimming step is what is going to keep you from looking like an unkept homeless man. Also trimming your beard will keep your beard in line with your natural face shape. If your beard is not in line with your face shape, your image will look off. People will most likely not know why your image is off, but they will be able to sense that something is not right, giving them a poor image of you.
The next facial hair you must make sure you take care of is your nose hairs. There is nothing more gross than long nose hairs growing out of your nose. If you meet someone for the first time and they have nose hairs that you can see, you most likely will feel uncomfortable and will probably be so focused on those hairs that you miss everything that that person has to say. You do not want to be that guy that no one listens to. Trimming your nose hairs is so simple. Any local pharmacy will have either an electric trimmer or scissors with the curved tip. Whichever your preference is, that trimmer will make sure that whoever you meet will hear what you have to say and not only see your nose hairs. Trimming your nose hairs is not hard and only needs to be done once every two or three weeks depending on how fast your hairs grow.
Finally, your eyebrows. Now if you do not trim your eyebrows it is probably not going to be the end of the world. Of course, if you have those super bushy eyebrows it may be for you. But if you have put all this effort into making sure that everything else is trimmed and looking good, then why stop short of the finish line. Trimming your eyebrows really is simple. If you have one of those electric nose hair trimmers, they sometimes come with another attachment that looks like a razor. That attachment is for trimming your eyebrows. If you do not have that then just use your standard razor that you use for shaving your face. All that you really need to do is trim the hairs that seem to be trying to get away from your eyebrows. These hairs normally are above your eyebrows and cause the shape of your eyebrows to change. Now for people with lighter colored hair this is not very obvious, but dark-haired people cannot hide them. So simply trimming above your eyebrows and making sure that you trim down to the top of where your eyebrows begin will keep you from looking ungroomed.
Lastly, keeping your skin looking good is probably the most important part of your entire grooming routine. If your skin looks bad, it does not matter how well-groomed you are, people will notice your poor skin. Just by washing your face with a face wash, not your bar of soap, will help keep the skin on your face looking healthy. Also putting just, a little bit of moisturizer on will help prevent your skin from drying out. Make sure that your moisturizer is not very oily, this can cause your face to shine and appear as if your face is very greasy. I do not think I need to tell you that a greasy face is not something you want to see.
Being presentable is something that every gentleman should strive for. Finding your look is something that you must do on your own. But making sure that you are groomed and looking well, will help you pull off whatever look you decide fits you the best. Remember that you are unique and whatever you decide is your look, then own it. Do not let anyone drag you down. Staying well groom will give you confidence because you know that you look good, which will then make you feel good too.
